Night
Lights - "After Dark" Photography
Street
lights, headlights, architectural lights and fluorescent signs all create very
different qualities and colors from those found in daylight. These light sources
can produce unusual images and convey distinct moods sensed only after the sun
sets. This hands-on workshop begins in the classroom where the particulars of
night photography will be discussed, including:
• Night photography equipment • Overriding automatic settings • Metering for long exposures • Using filters or white balance
After class, we will meet at Pasadena City Hall to put what we learned to the
test. Students will take photos at dusk and at night under the guidance of a
photography professional. Required: a digital camera, extra batteries, memory
cards; or film camera (any brand color film, ISO speeds 100, 200, or 400); and a
tripod. Make plans to drive your own car or to carpool with others to the photo
location. Class is limited to 15 students. Advance registration
required.
Equipment:
• Digital camera with extra batteries and memory
cards; or • Film camera (any brand color film, ISO speeds 100, 200, or 400) • Camera Manual • Small flashlight • Tripod (required)
Note: Students are required to sign a liability waiver
prior to departure.
PCC requires all travelers carry their own medical/accident
insurance,
and does not provide this coverage.
Presenter: Brian Leng, a commercial
photographer and teacher, will be
on hand to answer any questions regarding your digital or film
camera’s
controls, as well as provide you with helpful suggestions regarding composition.
